This is one of the last normal weeks I’ll have for awhile so I wanted to sit down and blog about my week before things go crazy! Grab a snack, this might be a long one!
This past weekend was my first weekend home in a month. My crazy weekends started with a weekend girls’ trip, then a last minute trip to California, then a planned trip to Atlanta. After so much travel, it was great to be home for a weekend! On Saturday, me, Mike, and my friend Laura ran a 5k. I haven’t run a 5k race in years and I was pushing Maddie in the stroller which was a lot harder than I expected! Before the race, I’d run with the stroller, but not any real distance. My 5k time was just over 40 minutes which is slow for me, but I was happy with it since I’ve only gotten back into running recently AND I was pushing at least 30 pounds the entire way. After the race, we walked through the local farmers market and went home to relax. That afternoon, we had lunch at a local barbecue place, we went grocery shopping, and spent the rest of the night relaxing!
On Sunday, we got up and went to church. We generally go to the service before lunch and head straight to lunch when church is over, but this week we went to the early service and decided to get a late breakfast at Cracker Barrel instead. It was pretty easy to find low carb options there since it’s breakfast foods, but I definitely indulged in a biscuit with my eggs and turkey sausage! After breakfast, we went to Target to pick up some things and then we spent the afternoon at the pool! Maddie LOVES the water and it’s been fun to play around in the pool with her this summer. The only unfortunate thing about Sunday was that I used a new sunscreen and ended up with a chemical burn around my eyes. I was super bummed because I was really excited to try it since it’s been highly reviewed, but I guess my skin reacted with an ingredient. I’m still dealing with some dry skin as a result of the healing process! We ended up eating an early dinner since we skipped lunch due to a late breakfast.
Monday was another start to yet another work week. Thankfully, I really love my job and the people I work with so Monday’s aren’t terrible for me. I took Maddie to daycare and then went to work! After work, I went home, made dinner, played with Maddie for a bit, and then went to the gym. This gym session was my first lifting session in over a month. I am working on balancing cardio and weights since I see a lot of progress when I do cardio but I LOVE lifting. Lifting only doesn’t show a ton of results for me- I tend to get bigger- so it’s been discouraging. I’m going to start incorporating more lifting into my routine, though, because I truly love it. I think a lot of my issue was that I always did reps for strength and size (3-8 reps) and not for lean muscle (10-12 reps) so I’m going to change my reps up and see how that effects things. I lifted Monday night and followed it up with a little bit of cardio. It felt really good!
Tuesday I woke up early to go to the gym. Mike and I have a pretty specific gym schedule that we stick to since we can’t both be gone at the same time. That was definitely a big adjustment after having Maddie. We’re used to it now, but it was weird at first! I stuck to cardio because I was really tired and wanted to get in a workout without having to really think. Maddie didn’t sleep well Sunday night or Monday night and when the baby doesn’t sleep well, parents don’t either! After the gym, I got ready for work, got Maddie ready, and made breakfast. Since we’re sticking to mostly low carb meals, breakfast is typically eggs and some sort of meat. Tuesday’s breakfast was really good! I scrambled some eggs for Maddie and then poached myself an egg. Instead of toast, I put some shredded cheddar in a skillet, cooked it till it bubbled, flipped it, and then used it as a base. It’s kind of like a giant cheese cracker in a way, and it doesn’t take a ton of cheese to make it work! On top of my cheese “toast”, I put a Laughing Cow triangle, my poached egg, and some bacon. It was DELICIOUS. I can definitely see it being a staple breakfast. After work, I went home, cooked dinner, played with Maddie, and then relaxed!
Wednesday is generally my day off from the gym. I made the same breakfast as Tuesday, got myself and Maddie ready for the day and then went to work! After work, I worked on some custom art for a couple of clients and then called it a night. On my days off the gym, I really try to dial in on my nutrition to make sure I continue to make progress. Today, I tried the Blueberry Muffin Quest Bar and it was pretty good! I feel like the streusel bits could have been a bit smaller since you could easily get a bite that was all streusel which led to a weird texture, but it really did taste like a muffin and I liked that flavor a lot! I ended up going on a run Wednesday evening anyways since I had a couple of treats during the day. I did 2 miles in a little under 24 minutes which is my fastest split since I started running again!
Thursday morning I woke up at 4:45 and made my way to the gym. Since I ran the night before, I wanted to lift so I decided to work legs. After my workout, I went home, had a Quest bar, and went to work! Thursday night was pretty calm. I got the Jaclyn Hill Palette in the mail which was very exciting! I played with it a little bit, but I waited until Friday to really work with it. Once I got my Morphe order put away (I also ordered a few brushes), we ate some dinner, watched Big Brother, and went to bed.
Friday was a true day off of the gym. I “slept in” until 6:15 and went about my day as normal. We generally go out to eat or try to do something on Friday nights. This particular Friday, I just grabbed a salad for dinner since I had a heavier lunch and was still full. We made our way into downtown Nashville and went to the Future Stars hockey game which is a scrimmage between a bunch of players that are newly signed or drafted to the Nashville Predators. Even though hockey just ended for us a couple of weeks ago, I miss it! Maddie loves it too so seeing that game was a fun outing for the family.
All of that brings us to today! We woke up this morning and went to the gym. I did the stairmaster and then worked shoulders, triceps, and chest. After the gym, we went home and got cleaned up before heading to Green Hills for some shopping and lunch. We went to the Cheesecake Factory and everything there is SO high calorie! I don’t even know how it’s possible to have a 2200 calorie pasta dish. It was crazy! I opted for a lighter meal and got the Asian Summer Rolls. They were pretty good! I could have done without the pasta in them but the flavor was great! After lunch, we went grocery shopping for the week and now we’re back home to enjoy the rest of the day as a family. We will be having turkey burgers for dinner!
Did you hang in there? Good! Hopefully this gave you a little insight as to how I do things on a weekly basis! I will start doing these weekly recaps more often as things happen!
Questions for you:
- How was your week?
- Have you ever been to the Cheesecake Factory? If so, what’s your favorite thing there?
