I have tried SO many different workout routines in the past. Some have been really great, some have been boring, some were too easy, and some felt impossible. I’ve run half marathons, done CrossFit, followed body building plans, you name it. There are pros and cons to all of them but I am really loving the routine I’ve got going on right now. It’s called the “I Do Whatever I Want” routing.
Ok, no, that’s not a real thing, but it is what I’m doing. After we moved, I stopped doing CrossFit because of the cost. They are much more expensive here and it’s just not something we can swing right now. I have a membership to Planet Fitness and I go there a few times a week. When we first started, I was motivated to complete a workout program. The more I did it, the more I dreaded going to the gym. I hated feeling like that so I decided to change it up a little bit. Now, instead of following a plan, I just do what I want. Sometimes I lift, sometimes I do the elliptical, heck, one day I got to the gym, decided I was too tired, and I spent some time on the HydroMassage bed instead.
I’ve also started getting outside a lot more. I used to think you HAD to run in order to exercise outside, but I go on walks at least once a week now. By adding walking into my routine, I add more than 5 miles a week to my distance! There are a few places I love to go walk or run. The first is the Greenway. I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s basically a trail that goes through the entire city. It has some really pretty spots- including one of my favorite little spots in the area! I think the entire Greenway is about 13 miles and there are different trailheads along it that have restrooms and playgrounds. My friend Abbey and I are training for a half marathon and we use the Greenway to train a lot.
We also have Barfield Park. It’s a gorgeous park that sits near a mountain with a paved, gravel, and dirt trail. I love that there is a paved trail because I can bring Maddie with me in the stroller. I’ve only been here once but it was beautiful and I can’t wait to go again! There is a little creek in one part of it that is pretty easy to get down too. Maddie loved it!
I really can’t wait for it to start warming up a bit more. Right now everything is dead since it’s been cold, but I know it’s going to be gorgeous once everything starts to liven up!
Anyways, so that’s a little bit of a recap of what I’ve been doing exercise wise. I have found that I stick to a routine so much better now that I’m doing things I enjoy each workout. I’ve also broken the mindset that every workout needs to be a killer workout. I used to feel bad if I didn’t burn a certain amount of calories each workout, but now I make sure to enjoy my workouts in order to keep them consistent. That doesn’t mean I slack off at all, of course. Some workouts I push myself really hard. It just means that a workout isn’t a “fail” if I didn’t feel like throwing up. I’m working on balance and I think finding out how to really enjoy exercise is a great start!
